The Americans seem to have slowly but surely monopolised the Major trophies in recent times.
Since Sergio Garcia famously win the Masters last year we have seen three Americans pick up the big prizes – Brooks Koepka won the US Open, whilst Jordan Spieth returned to form to win the open Championship – his third Major prize. The last Major was won by Justin Thomas at the PGA Championships.
Indeed, looking at the list of winners, one of the things of note is that of the last nine Majors eight have been won by someone winning their first Major trophy. Only Jordan Spieth spoiled that stats being even more impressive!
Rory McIlroy has been very vocal about winning the Masters this year, which is the only Major he has never won. It is a very select club of golfers that have won all four and he will desperate to win that. He will have a lot of competition though, with lots of his competitors now having the experience of knowing how to win.
In the past Tiger Woods will have monopolised these competitions and he will be back entertaining the crowds, who will be desperate to see him doing well. The last few years have been miserable for him with various injuries and personal issues affecting him.
More likely there will come competition for the prize from Jordan Spieth as normal but also Dustin Johnson and Fowler. The conditions will also be important to note but apart from the odd win from Garcia and of course Danny Willett a couple of years ago.
I’d expect the Americans to continue to dominate but will supporting the Brits of course.
