On paper it looks like quite an easy tie for Liverpool.
The Reds were irresistible against Manchester City in the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League, and with a choice between Roma, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid you had to believe that they had got the easy match.
Look a little deeper though and you’ll see that Liverpool have drawn a team with a never-say-die attitude and some great players in key positions. One of these players, Edin Dzecko, has been on fire this season. Almost signing for Chelsea in January, he stayed with the Romans instead and has led them to the brink of the Champions League Final. Their comeback against Barcelona, a 3-0 win after a 4-1 defeat away from home, was incredible.
Can they afford to keep on giving teams leads though? Roma’s away form in this competition (and in Serie A) has been pretty bad so to many it has been a surprise they have got his far. If they think that they can turn up and play Liverpool at their own game (like Man City did) they could get severely punished.
Liverpool have been fantastic going forwards through Salah, Firmino and Mane and if they are given the chance they will tear through Roma at Anfield. You have to think that the Italians will decide to shut up shop and try and keep their old player Salah quiet. If they don’t and have an off night? Liverpool could have one foot in the final, as they did after the first leg at Anfield against Man City!
